We have been in this fabulous alchemy of making handmade soaps for 4 years. Studying and discovering the wonderful, and infinite, universe of the diverse recipe book that the properties of the different ingredients can compose a beautiful formula for the care of the largest organ of the body: the skin.

Our soap factory is completely handmade. Our workshop is a small space. Although our enthusiasm is enormous.

In this first stage of our project (let's call it "Launch") we developed very careful recipes but also very limited. Our batches are very small and laborious.

PROCESSES

We are currently making the classic cold process soap.

Cold process soap is a type of handmade soap made from a mixture of oils and fats with a sodium hydroxide solution (caustic soda). This method of production, called saponification, implies that the mixture is kept at a low temperature, without the need for additional energy. Under these conditions, saponification develops exothermically. The mixture itself generates the thermal energy necessary for the alchemy of "saponification"

This manufacturing process requires milligram precision in the addition of the different ingredients. Even more so the more ingredients are used in a formula. To ensure the suitability and safety of our preparations, we use certified calculators that provide us with rigorous information on the qualities of the compositions we propose. From the saponification index of each oil/butter, to the degree of hardness, durability, cleanliness or conditioning of our formulations.

Additionally, in all cases, we apply a percentage of superfatting to guarantee extra conditioning and active principles/nutrients above the saponification index and causticity that allows cleaning. In addition, this formulation allows us to guarantee the complete safety of the topical use of our soaps on any type of skin.

The main range of our soaps has a pH balance of 8.5 and 9.5, which is the standard required for any type of skin. Logically, there will be specific formulations that require, due to their organoleptic utility, slightly adapted values.

MAIN FEATURES

• Nutrient Preservation: By not requiring excessive heat, essential oils and other ingredients retain their beneficial properties.

• Creative Control: We can customize each batch with different ingredients, colors, and textures, offering a wide range of soaps for different skin types and preferences.

• Extended Curing: Cold process soap requires a curing time of 8 to 10 weeks (depending on the formulation), during which saponification is completed and a softer, longer lasting product with its proposed properties, optimally compiled and cured, is achieved.

• Low energy consumption: The cold process of soap making requires very little consumption of electrical or thermic energy, except for bringing the solid butters to a liquid point so that they can be fused with the oils that maintain their liquidity at lower temperatures and, subsequently, keeping the soap for 8 hours at the same temperature that the process spontaneously generates.

Cold process soap is known for being gentle on the skin, moisturizing, and for preserving the beneficial properties of the oils and other ingredients used, making it a sensual option for those looking for natural and artisanal products unmatched in their industrial versions.

INGREDIENTS

All the ingredients we use, both oils/butters, additives, juices, fragrances and colorants, are of the highest quality available on the market in terms of certification of the aspects that interest us most (and our potential user). We make 85% of the juices by hand in our small workshop. We acquire the rest from suppliers who guarantee the ethical and substantial suitability that we require for our formulations.

• Organic, non-GMO, and sustainably sourced crops. In many cases (not as much as we would like) with BIO certification.

• We try to do as much research as possible to ensure that our ingredients come from socially responsible cultivation and processing, where no type of human exploitation or aggression/discrimination/abuse of cultures or populations is involved.

• All the ingredients we use are cruelty-free in their testing and production process.

• By giving up one of the most beneficial ingredients in soap formulation, such as animal fat, our soaps are 100% vegan.

PACKAGING

In this first stage of our project we cannot aspire to luxurious packaging that meets our most ambitious standards in terms of sustainability, on the one hand,and aesthetic and functional final application.

For now, our pieces will be packaged in cellophane. Being biodegradable and compostable, cellophane reduces the environmental impact. In addition, its transparency allows excellent visibility of the product, and its air permeability allows natural aromas to be perceived, improving the user experience.

ETHICS

• Our commitment is to produce soap pieces whose manufacture and composition meet the highest eco-social standards.

• The organoleptic quality of our soap pieces will always be above any economic and/or aesthetic consideration.

CERTIFICATIONS

For now, at this Launch stage, we cannot access certifications such as ECO, BIO, VEGAN, FREE ANIMAL CRUELTY, etc. We do not have adequate facilities for such standards to be granted to us. This aspect concerns us but, for now, it is beyond our capabilities. So we cannot assert such labels on our products.

What we are going to commit to, once we have installed and consolidated this Launch phase, in a matter of 6/10 months, is to add all the tracking links for the batches of ingredients that we use in each preparation.

If fortune is on our side and we manage to expand the project so that our facilities are adapted to the requirements that each certification demands, we will strive to apply to obtain each one of them, which our soaps already comply with.

PROJECT AND FUTURE

This project was born in the most humble way possible. Artisanal and homemade. But our expectations and projections are long-term. Once this "Launch" moment is consolidated, we aspire to, in a short time:

• Make glycerin soaps, more playful and with less curing time.

• Design and make soaps with many more specificities according to the requirements of various epidermal qualities.

• Solid shampoos for different hair needs. From anti-dandruff, nourishing, repairing, strengthening, to the chimerical desire to avoid hair frizz caused by a "lift".

• Virtuous serums, masks and lotions for skin care.

• Soaps, lotions and oils for shaving, caring for and enhancing beards.

• Create our own fragrances starting from botanical ingredients from the closest possible source. In the same way as with our color palette.

• Delving into the production of ancestral soaps, with their initial ingredients and techniques. From our "Castile soap", "African Aleppo soap", Japanese, pre-Columbian and even Phoenician soaps, when we find the recipe and discover the original techniques.

• Recovering soap making as a trade that identifies this three thousand year old Cadiz.

As you can see, we are very adventurous...!
